You say cheapskate like it's a bad thing ;-)
It is.
It's un-American. It's un-Capitalist. You are denying the system your
purchasing power. This hurts companies and their shareholders, and it
threatens jobs.
We all do price/value comparisons. We all weigh what we get in
relation to what we have to pay for it. It's a fact of life no matter
where you are (or where you pretend you are) on the food chain.
True for most people -- but not all. At either extreme of the income or
wealth scale, the price/value ratio loses its grip. Too poor, and you
simply do not have the funds to make genuine value choices but have to get
what you can afford, which in many cases is far from the best-value option.
At the other end of the scale, ultra-high net worth individuals afford
themselves the luxury of not caring what their latest whim costs, or whether
there is any value for money in it.
Now, granted, the price value scale can be tilted on certain items.
Women pay silly amounts for shampoo and men pay silly amounts for
cigars. And between cigar smokers the scale can be different. But the
cost factor is inescapable.
You apply the wrong scale. "Value" applies to commodities. What we deal
with here are luxuries, items of desire.
My point is that as the price of a particular cigar goes outrageously
skyward, the inflated price of the cigar becomes part of it's appeal.
You misunderstand the attraction to the braggard and poseur. The appeal
lies not in the inflated price but in the brand name. The price is a
*consequence* of the brand appeal.
