First he would have flown there (me thinks not), my daughter picked up
a couple for dad, and was taken at customs.

On my way home from Australia, I had a two-hour layover in
Dubai and popped into the airside duty-free shop. They have
a large walk-in humidor, well-stocked with mostly Cuban
cigars. The range on offer was wide but did not include
limited edition smokes. All the cigars I inspected were in
excellent condition if slightly too moist for my tastes.
The shop attendant was helpful and had at least a passing
knowledge of cigars (always a plus). I was free to open any
box I chose -- not always a possibility in cigar stores, and
IME quite rare in duty-free shops. I left the place with
RyJ belicosos dress box from NOV04
666 Dirham = $181
San Luis Rey Regios dress box from FEB01
497 Dirham = $135
San Luis Rey Serie A dress box from ENE01
530 Dirham = $144
Upmann Connoisseur #1 half-cab from SEP03
519 Dirham = $141
As you can see by the comparison with CoH, prices are
extremely competitive. Perhaps even better, most of the
stock appeared to have several years of age -- an
unlooked-for but most welcome bonus.
If anyone is planning to travel to the Far East and is
undecided which airline or travel route to choose, stopping
over in Dubai may be worth taking into consideration.
Just wait until you go through customs (or whatever it's called in
