Re: ASC Reviews?

I've read a number of informative ASC reviews. Why is it, reviews so
often
lean towards the positive, vs, critical negative? Unless I missed
something, which is possible, the range seems 3/4 of 5. Haven't read any
that said, "boy, was that a piece of wrapped crap". <g>

Have a wonderful day :)

If you give a positive review of a cigar that you obviously enjoyed, you
will see about two dozen responses, thanking you for your review. Many will
just say "great review. thanks" or " yum" or "one of my favorites". You will
occasionally find yourself on somebody's gift list.
This is quite heartwarming and I'll occasionally post a favorable review,
just for the approval.

If you trash a cigar, almost any cigar but especially "forum favs" like
Consuegras (does consuegra mean 'gotcha' in Spanish?) then you will get
reams of invective directed at you, your poor taste, the origins of your
mother and the pedigree of your dog.
You will be taken off the gift lists.
You will increase the size of your killfile.

It's best to err on the side of caution and review only the cigars you
liked.
With literally thousands of non-Cuban brands/sizes to chose from, of which
only about 15%-20% are any good, you are perhaps doing more of a service to
fellow smokers by highlighting the 'good' cigars anyway. Of course you then
lose the opportunity to give a heads-up on those cigars you really find
offensive, even though there is an element of ASC who deliberately smoke
what others dislike, especially if they can buy them for $12/bundle.

But don't worry about the gift lists. For every ASCer who fails to send you
a 'bomb' or a 'newbie-pak' there are dozens of folks who will embarass you
with their generosity should you ever meet up with them. Most people would
like you to try the cigars they like, in hopes that you will like the same
cigars. Just weed out those who post comments like 'dog rocket -save them to
hand out to losers'.

All Cuban cigars are good, of course, and don't need to be reviewed unless
you are really desperate for one of those newbie-paks.
