Quick question: That's the shelf-life of the huge lithium battery pack
in that thing? What's the cost of replacing it? What's the impact on
the environment of having and old, dead one that needs getting rid of.
So far, I've heard:
* 5-7 yrs.
* ~$3000 (like putting a new transmission in your car.)
* Huge.
I don't have cites; that's all hearsay. That's why I'm asking.
Misc "oh yeah -- and... 'cite?' <G>"
The battery cost doesn't really seem to be a factor.
Huh?!? You're not saying they'll replace them for free, are you...?!

Toyota says they have not yet replaced one due to normal wear and tear.
Can't find any info on pricing, or on Honda...
Right. But hybrids are still fairly new. Lithium-ion batteries don't
last forever, even with a very-very small charge cycle. I would expect
that, over the next short number of years, a lot of them will be
expiring, and this will become more of a deal.
On the assumption that Toyota isn't claiming that the batteries last
FOREVER, then the question is: *WHEN* they die... [questions as above.]
If you'd READ the link, you'd see that Toyota is, indeed, saying that the
batteries will last the lifetime of the car.
Of course, that could just mean that the batteries are so expensive that if
they die, you're better off replacing the car... ;-)
