Well This may sound dumb but I don't even know if I have a fire wire
connection on my computer. Do all newer computers come with them?

Most everything that's been made in the last year has a firewire port.
It's a very small square port and needs a special cable. The drive
should
have come with two cables; USB and firewire. Check the cable & compare
to
the available ports on your computer to see if one matches.

Actually PM, I recommend you use USB 2.0 if you are running a Windows
(NTFS) system. Opinions vary but if you Google, you will find a ton of
information and comparisons.

James I am running Windows XP. I will Google the comparisons and make a
choice then. Thanks for your input.

No prob. How old is your computer? It likely already has USB 2.0
support but if not, USB 2.0 expansion cards (they plug into any free
PCI slot inside the computer) are very cheap.

I use USB extensively with my setup. My computer is across the room,
approx 10' away from where I sit. I _hate_ wireless keyboards (hugely
insecure, missed keys, etc), so I purchased two "active" USB cables and
a 4-port powered hub. It is very nice.
