Hello.
In a few days, I need to undergo oral surgery to remove my wisdom
teeth, but I was wondering, what are the risks of smoking after oral
surgery?
I have had my wisdom teeth out (major oral surgery, there was an extra one
way up behind and under my cheekbone they had to dig for, or something like
that), and have had teeth pulled.
Both times, I was lectured extensively on the evils of smoking, but if I
felt I had to, I should wait at least 72 hours.
Within 20 minutes of leaving the Dr's office, I was smoking a cigarette.
The dentist who did my last extraction was more realistic than the oral
surgeon. She told me "I know you're going to smoke, so just try to keep the
smoke away from the socket for a while." So I did try to do that, at least.
Despite their dire warnings, I was just fine.
Mickey, bad patient
