Hello.
In a few days, I need to undergo oral surgery to remove my wisdom
teeth, but I was wondering, what are the risks of smoking after
oral surgery? I've been informed that it can risk infection, but
how great is the risk? How long do I need to wait after the
surgery to safely smoke without a great risk of infection? If I do
smoke shortly after (say, a day or two), could I be more on the
safe side if I just rinsed my mouth out right after with some
mouth-wash? Any input would be great, thanks.
I'm no doctor, but I've had my wisdom teeth out, and I'd hazard a
guess that you won't find the idea of a cigar very appealing.
In general, while I like cigars a lot, I'm also paranoid enough not
to suck smoke into an open wound.
I'd give it a few days, at least. My guess is that that's about as
soon as you'll feel like it, anyway.
After learning about "Dry Socket", you waon't want a smoke for a
while.
Ugh, dry socket. It happened to me when I had my wisdom teeth
extracted. You don't want that to happen. Do exactly as your
dentist/surgeon says. And, pain medication will be your best friend
for the the first few days!
Good luck,
Les
That and lots of ice. Works miracles on the pain when combined with a
conscientious program of oral health and heavy drugs.
