serger thread

I admit it, i have a serger. a simplicity one that i bought at least
four or five years ago. it's simple, we don't argue. I've kept it
threaded with the same beigey/tan color all this time. and now, i
need to ask...

does everyone thread their sergers with thread to match the fabric?
and...is there a secret place to buy the cones cheaply then?
