Lovely Jay. I sometimes get one, probably blown down here from the Sierras, and it's always a thrill. My son, the one who hikes, says he's had them take bread from his hand when he's hiking in the mountains. He takes a bit of sandwich and hold it up over his head, and the Steller's Jays swoop down and take it from him.

You've got a wonderful variety of birds, lots of color. I have some of the same ones, but you have many more species. The past year or two, we've been having Oregon Juncoes come. There's a downy-headed woodpecker who works over my old trees, and sometimes a flicker -- I think I told you already that the first time I saw one, I thought I was hallucinating. Seeing an obvious cartoon bird in my back yard! My fanciest of late are a flock of blue pigeons, all with iridescent collars. Big! They're very satisfying for color, but they must belong to someone around here.
