Anything weight-bearing has to be attached to the studs! Even towel racks. It's hard to believe how stupid some people can be. Although I remember hanging a mirror on a wall of a house I used to live in ---- then watching it as it slid down the wall, taking the nail with it all the way. Didn't even break. But that house had sheetrock walls and the nail wasn't in the stud. It would have made a great video! Maybe for failblog.org.
