Oh dear, me again, with another one of those... But I can get hold
of a
Bernina Aurora 440 QE for 1300.- instead of 1899.- . It's 15 months
old,
used, but still has a warranty. The lady says she likes her Pfaff
better
and has more gadgets for Pfaff, that's why she's selling. According
to
her, some of the Bernina feet and gadgets are still in their
original
package. I don't know her personally, but she sounds reliable.
Still,
after the Husqvarna 2000 disaster I've become a bit careful about
second
hand articles. I could just go to a store and try the Aurora this
week
to see if it suits me. But is the price OK for a - although only
hardly
- used machine? Please help me, my brain is dazzled by the
discount....

Seems reasonable. Can you go and try her machine, or is it a post only
thing?

V o o VI know from both a Bernina dealer and a Vicking dealer that there
is no warranty to anyone other than the original owner. It is not
transferrable like the warranty on a car. That makes no sense to me, but
that's how it is. Even a brand new machine, still in the box from Ebay
has no warranty because it must be sold by a licensed dealer. No major
sewing machine manufacturer that I know of will warranty a machine sold on
the internet. They want to be sure you are dealing with a reputable
dealer.
I have a Bernina 440 QE and I think it is probably the best made machine
out there. BUT I really did want a longer arm becuse I occasionally
machine quilt (just on the lines, nothing fancy) and the shorter arm is a
pain.
I also wanted a light that let me know the bobbin is about out. It
doesn't have that, but there is a different sound in the bobbin when it is
about to run out--most of the time.
I think the Viking and Pfaff quality has gone down since they have joined
their companies together.
This is my first post and I have no idea what I'm doing!
