(You know, the usual struggle which shoes to wear, getting the bundle of food, entertainment and hygiene things packed and the car loaded with sewing machines, kid, bundle etc.) The weather was (is) lovely and so we enjoyed the 45 km-drive across the Ruhr area.It is pretty there. :)
Yes, it can be very nice, especially the outer rim where it borders to the Munsterland (North) or Sauerland (South). Still, I couldn't help remembering last year around this time when we strolled through the streets of London, and the look from your sewing room window wasn't bad either.
wait a year ot two... They are replanting the cherry orchard! Yay! Cherry blossom! And cherries! :D
Sheesh, I'd love to take a break now, without husband or kid, but I can't. DD is in such a wilfull stage that I don't dare leave her to the loving but spoiling care of her aunt or grandparents or her father's sometimes mercurial moods. (Plus business is picking up again, so he's out of the house again on some - not predictable - days.) But if you perchance should want a partner in crime, perhaps next year or so, I'd love to go a-roving through fabric stores, textile museums and the countryside with you. Anyway, DD seems to respond to my (our) attempts of making her fit for human society, and August isn't that far away (Yay! Sigh! Kindergarten...) so relief is on the way. ;-)
I have a friend in North London (Sue of the sewing weekend and the mad frocking), and her local fabric emporium is, aparantly, fabulous! So a stash-building we will go!
[...] When I told him of my latest acquisition, the ALDI serger, he was less pleased and warned me that I'd 'break my legs' with that one. Well, I'll try it anyway, and then, if it's crap, I'll sell it on Ebay. So that's that, I just had to share...Ah, well... Those cheap and cheerfulls can be better than expected, but you tend to have to nurse them along a bit. Treat it to good thread, good needles, and oil each time you use it, and it'll go a few rounds.
Advice noted down and marked as 'heed!'
Just don't try to sew tin cans or carpet on it! :D
Ah yes, I thought so; I guess the all-plastic appearance of the little serger hinted something like it. ;-)
When you go back for the machines, ask him about pre-loved sergers, and keep yer eyes peeled for a good one.
I already did ask and he said that the good ones were hard to come by and didn't rest long in his store since they were - good ones. However, if things go as planned I might be able to use the sewing room this weekend already. Then I'll try the serger on the curtains for the roof windows and will be able to tell if serging is for me or not. If it is, I'll tell him to look out for a good one for me.
Put yourself on the waiting list at as many places as you can find!
