In addition to all of that, the elderly are deliberately
"retired" to get them out of the labor pool. I am convinced
that most of FDR's social engineering was designed to get
older workers out of the way in order to reduce the horrific
unemployment of the Great Depression. Now we are stuck with
a system which retires people at 65, even thought the life
expectancy has climbed way beyond that. Had the retirement
age been indexed to the actuarial tables from the start, I
wonder what the retirement age would be, and if the SS
system would be in as much trouble. Too many retired
folks+too few workers=recipe for disaster. AKA a huge
pyramid scheme.
