You have a cat called James? That's a rahter formal name for a moggie.

I've had cats named Aldous Huxley, George Bernard Shaw, and Bertrand Russell.

I currently have a dog called Bertrand Russell Jack Russell. His brother was named Ernie Dingo Jack Russell. Ernie Dingo is an Australian Aboriginal Actor who is drop dead gorgeous. Everyone used to assume that Bert and Ernie got their names from the Muppets. Ernie got bitten by a snake and was dead within about 20 minutes.

But how do you call them? I can't imagine standing on the lawn and calling "George Bernard Shaw, George Bernard Shaw" on the top of my lungs.

Unfortunately, Bert turned out to be retarded, so we changed
his name to Bert Parks. Then there was Floyd. Sigmund Floyd. He wasn't pink.

Pity. A Pink Puss sunds rather fetching.

Aldous Huxley was called "Hux", G.B.S. was "Shaw" - except to snooty people and then he was "Chat." Bert Parks became Pinky Parks when the vet pronounced him a pink cat -- he was a pale gold to my untutored eye.

But I've had few cats who would come when I called them by name. I have had some who came to a whistle, though. I've had cats who liked to travel. Shaw for one. He would nap in the car and not announce his presence until we were well on the way. He just loved to go. He and one other cat did travel with us, Shaw went through the western U.S. and Canada. The other went to Mexico with us.
