Yes, Melinda! I LOVE YOU!

:)

I understand.

A number of years back, I spent $500 over a few months for
medical care for my oldest son's guinea pig. People kept
asking me, "You spent THAT much on a RODENT?" (Guinea pigs
live 3-7 years, as opposed to rats and mice that live 1-3
years.)

well, rats can live to 7 years too, but all pet store rats are
frrom the same breeders that sell rats to labs, so they are
bred to develop cancer tumors by 16 months. masectomies on
rats run about $300-600... & the prognosis tends to be poor.
ask me how i know :p
i have also been berated for spending $9000 on a cat. he had
diabetes & a blood parasite. once we identified the parasite &
treated for thart, the diabetes was well controled by insulin
and he lived 5 more happy years (and turned out to be a lot
older than we thought when he was postmortemed. we thought he
was around 10. he was 19)
