Sounds like a loose wire in the light fitting. Unplug and have a look. If there is a loose wire, it shouldn't be hard to fix. It may need soldering.

Now repeat after me - "I must turn the power off first *before* looking at the wiring".

I wouldn't want any of my sewing friends electrocuting themselves whist fiddling with the wiring of their SM's!

Now I'm an electrical engineer, yet I've still electrocuted myself a couple of times (though not on a SM) - you'd think I'd know better.

Let me tell you, it HURTS! AND IT CAN KILL YOU! So be careful, and remember there are some electrical components (capacitors) that can hold a charge (power) *after* the electricity is turned off and give you a shock when you touch them.
