IDF is optional. One 'engages' it by flipping it down. In fact it does not engage with every foot, because some specialty feet would not require it.
It would not be practicable with a wide side to side stitch, or some others. PAT

Pat, can you switch it off when you don't want it? And not just by dropping the feed dogs. I do things where a walking/dual feed wouldn't help at all...
