It is called a scuff feed machine, used mostly for binding mattresses and
luggage and such. It is a copy of the Singer 78-2
A compound feed walking foot is the preferred machine for upholstery work.
Drop feed walking foot is also used but the compound seems to be the better
option

Anybody had any experiences in comparative effectiveness of walking foot
vs. needle feed machine? My old consew 28 (industrial) has needle feed
plus top walking foot and no feed dogs on bottom at all. I don't know why
none on bottom, but maybe cost savings. Anyone know any advantages of
this design for,like,upholstery? JPBill
