Does sewing the hook side of velcro to fabric cause more problems than the loop side?
Yes!
My loop side sews with no problems, but the hook side seems to keep getting small birds nests and cutting the top thread.
This is normal. Try getting the needle into that VERY NARROW bit of tape up the side of the loops... I know - tricky! But it is possible with care and practice, and it does give far better results. I also find it best to use a jeans needle and tighten the top tension a smidgeon.
Well, that will work on one side, but not the other, as the instructions had me cut a 3/4" strip into two 3/8" strips. But thanks for the confirmation. I do have a jeans needle in right now. I'll look at the tension. Thanks Kate.
ERK! You need to buy narrower Velcro! Yes, it *is* available, in limited colours, usually found in baby things and doll garments! I'll try to find some for you. Cutting it is NOT advised, as the edge will fray. You might want to try some Fray-Check* up those cut edges.

Dwight
I've seen some I think. I'll try that. Thanks.
