I had a baby 45 years ago. I had a Norge top loader and
used cotton diapers. No stains! If front loaders are so
great what happened to Bendix? If you have a good water
heater why do you need a washer that heats the water? Does
that not increase the cost of whatever energy you use? I
have a new pair of Maytags ( top loader) and love them and
they didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I think to often the
public gets sucked in by the advertising media.
up until recently Americans refused to buy front loaders. top
loaders were cheaper, so that's what sold. Americans will buy
for price over quality... which is why WalMart survives.
as for why a washer needs a water heater, that's easy.
domestic hot water heaters are generally set to 120 degress F.
this is so people won't accidentally scald thier babies or
themselves. however, it's not really hot enough to clean &
sterilize anything. almost all dishwashers heat water or you'd
have really icky dishes. having a heater in your clothes
washer allows you to really clean baby clothes, as well as
kill dust mites in clothing & bedding. this is pretty
important to people with allergies.
