No one person maybe: but the members of the group as a whole agreed the charter, and think if you took a poll you'd find that more than 75% of us like those mutually agreed rules and want to keep them. This is why THIS group (and most other sewing newsgroups) have a NO ADVERTISING policy, and the members enforce it strictly. This is why WE, the members of this and other sewing newsgroups, created a special place for ads. If you want the ads, go look for them in the marketplace group - that's what it's for!

Fair enough. I still don't agree with dobbing people in to their ISP,
but we can agree to disagree on that one.

They'll just have to learn to live with the results of their stupidity.

Or the results of their helpfulness - depending on how you look at it.
: )

Now, I'm bored with all this: you obviously don't want to understand that WE THE GROUP AS A WHOLE don't want and will not tolerate spam, advertising, trolls, and other abuses of the group charter WE created to protect US.

But I do understand. Kate, I'll say it again - I think the no ads is
a GOOD policy. But I *don't* think that going behind someone's back
to their ISP is the right way to teach it.

Ah, now THAT'S where you have misunderstood US: NO-ONE goes behind someones back and reports them. Folk are told that this is what happens when they read the charter. It's part of the rules of the game, and ignorance is no excuse: if you don''t know you're likely to be reported, it's because you didn't bother to read the well publicised and published charter. AND the reporter will usually give a warning (which you as a group reader may never see, if sent only as an email direct to the offending company) as an additional helpful hint. Occasionally some particularly idiotic company will be reported directly without further warning if this is a third or fourth offense. If they are truly unlucky, they may face an own goal for a first offense if we have been plagued by a rash of spammers. Tough: they should know better and check first.

Now, you may see that MY website is properly mentioned in my .sig. If you like, you are welcome to go and see what I do - some for myself, some for kids as a volunteer (or occasionally paid!) teacher, and some for customers. But I do not and never have advertised here, and I sell nothing through the web site. To find out what I charge for my services, folk have to contact me directly, off list. Same with Penny, and all the other professionals who give their time and hard-won expertise to their fellow stitchers, male and female, on this and other sewing newsgroups. DO NOT take THIS as an ad: I'd much rather teach you how to make the stuff than make it for you! :)
