I got a lot out of books by Michael E. Gerber, like "The E-Myth Revisited"
and others. His link:

Kathleen Fasanella's book on the rag trade is enlightening as well, giving
great encouragement to designer-manufacturers. (The Entrepreneur's Guide to
Sewn Product Manufacturing)

Gerber makes an important distinction between creating a sole proprietorship
JOB sewing and having a sewing BUSINESS, which is very different especially
as far as job burnout is concerned.
