while back she came to us delighted with the service she got from her local
JoAnne's, eager to tell us that there WERE knowledgeable and helpful staff.
We were all pleased that the company seemed to have heard their customers
and were looking to improve: this can only be a good thing. Unfortunately
that member of staff seems to have vanished, Her situation is one I have
also frequently found myself in: the 'once in a lifetime' sewist at the
counter with a member of staff who may be a new 'Saturday Girl' and has
little or no sewing experience. If that member of staff cannot help the
customer, a helpful and knowledgeable fellow customer can ensure a good
result for both: the inexperienced customer learns something, makes a
suitable purchase, and has a good sewing experience, so comes back for
more... The sales assistant learns something he or she can use with the
next innocent customer, and makes another good sale to a customer who will
then come back... And the experienced customer has ensured that her local
shop has a bit more business and so is less likely to vanish.

First....... HERE HERE!!! RIGHT ON!!! WELL SAID!!! (Caps on purpose btw)

Second..... I would never tolerate being treated badly in a store where I
shop, and as for people who happen to overhear that another customer needs
help figuring out what to do and who just happen to know......... I am glad
there are people like that who selflessly offer assistance and their time.
When I first started sewing I didn't know anything, I had to teach myself,
and because of little lessons from strangers and staff at my favorite fabric
store (and alt.sewing) life was much better. And now I am at a point where
sometimes people think I work there LOL. Awhile ago a nice lady and her
grown children were buying diaper flannel and didn't know how much to get
for the new baby. I was at the cutting table as well, waiting for the staff
member to get there. I said I had made cloth diapers and can I help you
figure it out? They were very happy with the offer. And I was very happy
to help. I don't think people are like that here because its a small very
friendly canadian city, I think its because people like it when strangers
are nice and helpful no matter where you live.

Hopefully Juno can find a good place to shop, and hopefully all the bad
staff get the boot.
