i used to tan skins at home 20 years ago. I used a product very similar to
the utility tanning kit near the bottom of this page
http://www.donthomas.com.au/category60_1.htm you should be able to get this
at saddlery type places and hunting/gun shops.
give yourself a bit of time, the process involves salting and storing the
skins (for a couple of weeks at least, from memory) but if you follow the
directions, it's very straightforward and gives a good result.
