dsc 832 problems

Hi,
I have a DSC 832 panel wich don't enter programming. Right after i
type *8 it makes an error sound (long beep); typing the installer code
is useless. First time i got this, i had already entered programming
a couple of seconds ago and after a couple of weeks, the problem went
away. Two days ago i was working on that system and today i got that
error after *8 again.
Also I am skeptical about doing a hardware reset, since I won't be
able to reprogam the panel if the reset won't solve te problem.

I really need help on this.

A minor problem with DSC 832: some reporting codes willl reprogram
once in a while (i.e. CID programmed code 1401 goes to 14C1). 2
different 832 panels have done that. Can you explain?
