Re: Great deal, great product.

You "suggested" that I "drop dead and on the way down hit my head".

The only thing I see in this response is that reasonable discussion is
beyond your capability in this particular forum. I do not lay the blame for
this at your feet (as so many here have). I really don't care who started
it. What interests me more is who finishes it. Of the two of you, Frank is
the only one making a genuine effort at adopting a "higher standard". You
can continue to play in the "Cesspool" for all the good it's doing you.

As to your comments about my being familiar with the terminology you've used
to describe this Group and its participants I can only respond by stating
that Google is a very powerful research assitant and one I would highly
recommend anyone use who may be contemplating posting into a Group such as
this (pardon my not using the correct terminology, but I think most here
know what I mean when I say "Group").

In point of fact, I have no interest in when you started your business, what
you were doing, or the other things that factor in to your background and
make you uniquely "Robert L Bass, Net Citizen". You have knowledge and are
willing to share it. The fact that there are others here providing the same
service makes it relatively simple for anyone to discern the difference
between an answer you provide and one given by the likes of Mr. Rojas, Mr.
La Londe, or anyone else for that matter.

It appears from the way you "signed off" that further discourse with me is
of no interest to you. I must admit to a certain ambivalence to this news.
As I've said, I really don't care (one way or the other), and I wish you
well in whatever road you choose to take.

My name is "Frank" and that's the name I was Christened with. If you ask me
there aren't enough "Franks" in the world and somehow "Richard", "Harold",
"Basil", or "Throckmorton" just don't suit me as well.

Regards,

Frank too

Please excuse the long post, Mr. Bass. I'm only
a newly fledged member of the IB and don't wish
to be misunderstood again.

Knowing what that abbreviation means indicates you're not a
newcomer in ASA, most likely just one of the regulars using yet
another alias.

I actually thought Groups were created by several
individuals with a shared interest and a common goal...

Nope. Newsgroups (they're not "groups") are created by hosting
ISPs in response to a standardized formal request which one
individual posts. There's an appropriate newsgroup for that
where you can learn how to do so.

In this particular ALT group the individual that spearheaded
it's formation was (I thought) representative of a number
of individuals that were interested in discussions relating to
the security alarm INDUSTRY...

The newsgroup was created as a place for ANYONE interested in
security, not just those in the INDUSTRY (why are we yelling?) to
discuss matters related to electronic security.

I know this is what drew me to posting to this particular
ALT Group instead of something like alt.security.diy
(or similar)...

And here you are.

Would you set up a retail booth at an industry related
convention (like ISC for instance), or do you think your
money would be better spent at a venue showcasing
new homes, home automation, or the do-it-yourselfer/
handyman?

This isn't an industry related convention. It's an open
newsgroup where anyone interested in the subject is welcome to
post questions and answers. The only ones not welcome are
netcops who think they can decide who can say what. Get the
hint?

The FAQ makes it perfectly clear...

The "FAQ" you are referring to has no authority. It's just a
nice which idea someone wrote down many years ago and which no
one has ever heeded.

that questions from the general public can be responded
to within certain specific guidelines...

Neither the author of that page nor you are in charge of decided
who can respond to what or in what manner they may respond.
You've expressed concern over how I might best spend my efforts
(the idea clearly being that you'd rather I not answer DIYers'
queries in ASA). In that light I'd like to suggest that your
efforts would be better spent elsewhere. No one is interested in
another self-appointed netcop trying to tell everyone how to
post. If you don't like what I have to say, filter me.
Otherwise, that's your problem.

These appear to be both reasonable and quite workable...

Fine. Use them to guide your own posts and everyone will be
happy.

From your response, I doubt very much that if the FAQ
was actually put to a vote and adopted...

Adopted by whom? No one who posts to ASA has the authority,
individually or cumulatively, to decide on anything, not to
mention the fact that practically no one who posts here ever
heeds that so-called FAQ anyway.

that you would see fit to participate anyway (this is an
observation, and not a flame).

Uh-huh. Drop dead and on the way down hit your head. That was a
suggestion, not a flame.

You can elect to "participate" in what you've frequently
termed "this cesspool" and sling shit around all day...

So much for you being a new visitor. I haven't used that
expression in quite some time, although the term is certainly
still appropriate.

...or you can take the "high road" as Mr. Olson has...

High road? Olson? You're kidding, right?

In all probability you are Olson using another alias.

Bye.
