A child said, What is the grass?

Fetching it to me with full hands;
How could I answer the child?
I do not know what it is, any more than he.

I guess it must be the flag of my disposition,
out of hopeful green stuff woven.

Or I guess it is the handkerchief of the Lord,
A scented gift and remembrancer, designedly dropt,
Bearing the owner's name someway in the corners,
that we may see and remark, and say, Whose?

Or I guess the grass is itself a child,
the produced babe of the vegetation.

Or I guess it is a uniform hieroglyphic; and it means,
Sprouting alike in broad zones and narrow zones,
Growing among black folks as among white;
Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff,
I give them the same, I receive them the same.

And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.

Tiny graves.

I saw a picture from the aftermath of Lebanon a few weeks ago of
small
bodies zipped up in tiny body bags. I found myself wondering who
decides on
how many big body bags, how many little ones.

Why don't you ask the folks responsible for the deaths? In the case
of Beslan, that would be Basayev and his Muslim thugs. Of course,
"servant of Allah" Basayev is dead as a doornail,

A consolation. I wish he had died slow.

There was a story about a holy con man who went around to the parents
offering to resurrect their children, for a price - $10,000 was
mentioned in
the articles. He's in Russian prison at the moment.

so I suppose my
question is partly rhetorical.

In the case of Lebanon, it would be Nasrallah -- another "servant of
Allah" -- and *his* Muslim thugs.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

I'm beyond the point of caring about 'reasons'. The deed was done with
American weapons, so America is as responsible for it as anyone, as far
as
I'm concerned.

I know. In your morally-equivalent world, America is every bit as evil as
Basayev, servant of Allah and baby-killer, and his merry band of
Muslim thugs.

How many innocent people going about their daily business has America killed
since 9-11 ? Well over 100,000, maybe 150,000. If evil can be measured in
piles of bodies, my country has much to answer for.

It's been a tough summer for bleeding hearts.

Every summer is a tough one for bleeding hearts.

By this time next year we may be seeing the ICBM version of the
Katushkas
landing stateside, just like the V-3s were supposed to during The Good
War.
That will get some other hearts bleeding too, I'll have plenty of
company
then.

I keep hoping I'm wrong, but that looks like what is going to happen
next.
What a mess the Bushheads have made of it.

You must be looking forward to that scenario with great anticipation.
After all, it's no more than we deserve, being as evil as Basayev and
all. Perhaps they will develop some sort of neutron bomb that targets
only Bu$hheads and hard-charging Republicans. Bleeding hearts
would be immune. Wouldn't that be dandy :>)

What crap.

Loved the poem :>)
