I don't know but your second observation would be difficult to
dispute.
That is, modern civilization doesn't require a warmongering religion
to survive. Most everyone can live in peace now. In the 6th century
though, a religion based on warmongering may well have insured the
religion's future survival.
At the same time, one might argue that your first observation is
correct in regards to muslim religious clergy...
