Re: They Should Have Killed Him

You make a mighty eloquent and persuasive argument, Count.

Thank you Bob. "Eloquence" is my middle name.

Its actually kind of embarrassing. I should probably change it to 'Edward'
or something.

But, I'm
still concerned about the points raised by Ms. Noonan and Lanman. I'm
still worried about the message it sends -- to our friends, as well as our
enemies.

You're enemies are insane. There is nothing you can send them they can't
interpret as a weakness. If you killed him you're creating a martyr from a
ruthless crusader. If you let him live you're weak. Both interpretations are
dead wrong, products of an unhinged ideology based on nothing more than
hate, jealousy, and a ridiculously primitive interpretation of a religion.

Don't sweat it. There is no reason for America to question her institutions.
He went through the process and this was the outcome. Remember - that
process isn't based on some primitive cave dweller's highly dubious
interpretation of some religion. It comes from hundreds of years of legal
evolution, and as such its an extension of nature - its an extension of us.

And the message this 'friend' got was 'Everything's A-OK'.

On the other hand, while he avoided the death penalty, if the stories I've
been
reading about that "Supermax" prison today are true, he may, quite
literally,
be facing a fate in many ways worse than death.

While he's there, I think a suitable 'recreational activity' might be making
him watch 'Marth Stewart Live' and 'Ellen Degeneres' all day. Think Malcolm
McDowell in 'A Clockwork Orange'.

Or better yet - non stop, commercial free, all day "Will and Grace".

Feel free to add your own. We really can't be too cruel here. ;-)
