Mujaahideen Khalq (a quasi-Maoist group) would have *roughly* fallen
under this category prior to 9/11 (more so in the 80s, however).
Certain parts of the United States government did support them in
certain ways, and they did employ guerilla tactics within Iran that
could be construed as terrorism. After 9/11, the U.S. seems to have cut
ties with them, and their bases in Iraq (which were supported by Saddam
Hussayn) were forcibly closed.
