Incorrect analysis of my statement. If you're going to discuss proxies,
there's not a venue in the world the US isn't involved in, somehow. The
problem with trying to analyze all that from afar is (1) that such ops are
confidential, and (2) anecdotes tend to exaggerate the actual influence.

Nonsense. Lebanon for years had a rough balance of Christian, Muslim, Jew,
and Druze, with the first two predominate, but in close-to equal
proportions. The *balance* there is the point. Syria and Egypt have
substantial Christian populations, but 90/10 doesn't fit the definition of
"heterogeneous." In that situation, the majority religion and culture will
predominate.
