Muslim Londoner: "All Religions Have Their Rotten Apples"


This morning I heard a report on NPR about a convocation of over 5000
muslims currently taking place in the UK. There was considerable degree
of whining because some muslims felt they could not attend because of
the recent bombings. Imagine that--- *they* are afraid. One
interviewee said he was tired of people saying that islam would have to
make some changes, reform their religion, etc. "All religions have
their rotten apples" he said, insisting it was unfair to "single out"
muslims and that muslims had no intention of changing anything about
their religion to suit westerners.

Someone help me out here, please. How is it that so many muslims
living, or even born, in western nations do not consider themselves
westerners? And if they don't want to be westerners, then what in the
hell are they doing in the west? The guy referenced above spoke with a
British accent but sounded like a muslim radical.

And then you have the would-be bombers some of whom were not only given
*sanctuary* by the UK because they feared they would be killed in their
native muslim countries (Somalia for instance) but were on the dole
receiving British welfare. No good deed goes unpunished. How can one
help people who disrespect you for helping them?
