To Be Righteous For Salvation

People must not attempt
to be their own
so-called "righteousness"
for salvation.

The Jews attempted to do that
by the law of Moses;
the Catholics attempted to do that
by their church and ritual;
and today almost all Protestants
attempt to do that by
their repentance, surrender, etc.

It is the placing of trust in
those things for salvation
that makes it the attempt
to be their
own righteousness.

Such things as repentance,
surrender, commitment,
baptism, giving, enduring, etc.,
are to be done from love for God
rather than as an attempt to
be personally righteous
for salvation.

To be saved,
people must receive faith from Christ
to trust him to be righteous for us
forever in our stead for salvation
as our Righteous Substitute forever.
Otherwise people are only attempting
to be their own righteousness
which is no righteousness
for salvation at all:

As it is written,
THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE:
(Romans 3:10 KJV)

Therefore as by the offense of one
judgment came upon
all men to condemnation;
EVEN SO BY THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF ONE
THE FREE GIFT CAME UPON ALL MEN
UNTO JUSTIFICATION
[BEING DECLARED RIGHTEOUS]
OF LIFE.
(Romans 5:18)
