Although the U.S. Constitution -- the Law of the Land -- explicitly
gives Americans the right to keep and bear the tools with which to
dfend their own and their families' lives, all over the United States
today Americans are required to apply for -- that is, to "request" --
permission from government officials to exercise that RIGHT.
As we see below, the "incremental communism" Obama Administration
would like to require Americans to undergo psychiatric examinations
and jum through other hoops should they nervily wish to exercise their
2nd Amendment RIGHTS.
It's well known that here in California (as in many other states)
it's almost impossible for an ordinary citizen to obtain "permission"
from government officials to exercise this right, however; that is,
unless one is a multimillionaire (billionaire?) public official such
as hypocritical gun grabber Senator Dianne Feisntein who, while
staunchly disallowing the peasants to keep and bear arms, herself
packed a gun for many years. See, she's "special," and people like her
are entitled to "special treatment."
If Americans continue to acquiesce and allow corrupt politicians and
bureaucrats to deny them their Constitutional RIGHT to keep and bear
arms, then they shouldn't be surprised if they wake up one day and
hear that the same tyrants have decided that Americans should be
required to obtain licenses, undergo psychiatric testing,
fingerprinting and more in order to "legally" exercise their 1st
Amendment RIGHTS to freedom of speech.
Remember: It was not long ago at all that God-knows-how-many inmates
of the USSR who'd spoken out in ways the government disliked were --
like the brave Alexander Solzhenitsyn and so many others -- shipped
off to Siberian concentration camps. And the temeratures in Alaska get
every bit as cold as in Siberia.
But don't worry -- it could never happen here, right?

Alert: A perfect storm is developing for Second Amendment opponents
that could allow President Barack Obama's attorney general – Eric
Holder – to "ban guns at will" despite the 2008 affirmation from the
U.S. Supreme Court that U.S. citizens have a right to bear arms.
The situation was described with alarm by Alan Korwin, author of Gun
Laws of America, in a recent commentary.
He cited Holder's known support for gun bans – the former Clinton
administration official endorsed the District of Columbia's complete
ban on functional guns in residents' homes before it was overturned by
the Supreme Court. Holder … wrote a brief in the (District of
Columbia) Heller case supporting the position that you have no right
to have a working firearm in your own home.
And Korwin pointed to overwhelming Democratic majorities in Congress
as well as Obama's known support for gun restrictions and his presence
in the Oval Office.
The submission is H.R. 45, an extensive licensure law that creates a
national database of current firearm owners, requires psychiatric
testing and fingerprinting to obtain a license and places new
restrictions on gun use and storage.
Mike Hammond, legal advisor with Gun Owners of America, told WND that
H.R.. 45 gives the federal government so much power over gun
ownership, that the wrong administration could use it to "bring gun
ownership in America to an end."
"It takes semi-automatic firearms and handguns – the guns people use
for personal self-defense," Hammond said, "and sets up a licensure
system, that is, the government would have to give you permission to
own a gun. The government can therefore also deny that permission, and
it would mean an anti-gun administration could use it to effectively
ban most guns from private ownership.
The Republicans all "need to be pressed hard to do everything they can
to block H.R. 45.
"A former Ohio secretary of state, (Ken) Blackwell notes that,
'despite Obama's new lip service to the Second Amendment, Holder
signed onto a brief earlier this year (2008) reaffirming his long-held
position that the Second Amendment confers no rights whatsoever to
private citizens, and that the Supreme Court should have upheld D.C.'s
absolute ban on handguns, even in homes."
According to Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb, Holder
has supported handgun licensing and mandatory trigger locks. He also
lobbied for limits on gun shows.
"America's 85 million gun owners have ample reason to be pessimistic
about how their civil rights will fare under the Obama
administration," Gottlieb said. "Mr. Obama will have a Congress with
an anti-gun Democrat majority leadership to push his gun control
agenda. Gun owners have not forgotten Mr. Obama's acknowledged
opposition to concealed carry rights, nor his support for a ban on
handgun ownership when he was running for the Illinois state
