My Reason

Why do I believe there is a God? First of all, why does the question
exist to begin with? I mean to say, if all there is is this big
mechanical, impersonal universe, why ask why at all? Why not just,
kill or be killed? Kill them all and sort it all out later? When we
see that beautiful Aston Martin DB9 sit'n there at the curb idling
with that knock out gorgeous broad in the passenger seat, why don't we
blow the guys brains out and take the car and the girl for ourselves?
From earliest childhood, we have a sense of right and wrong. That is,we have this moral fiber that runs through us. We've ALL dealt with
guilt one way or another. It's not a question as to guilt, but
rather, what do we do with it? But for the purpose of this thread,
where in an impersonal rock universe did the sense of there being
should and shouldn't as opposed to merely can and cannot come from?
Now if you really want to examine the question, what in the sam hell
restrains me from being as bad as I can be. Oh, no doubt, I can be
bad. War taught me that. But what keeps me from having an adulterous
affairs, cheating on my taxes, stealing from my neighbor, watching
internet porno on the computer at work or home when the wifie isn't
around? Why don't nations as strong as the US was when the German
Wall fell and Russia right along with it, simply run roughshod over
the rest of the world? Why didn't we just take the oil fields of
Kuwait and then Iraq? Hell, who was going to stop us? Nuke'm all and
sort it all out later. Why do we have restraints placed on this moral
turpitude of ours? Where do they come from? They don't come from us.
We'd sell our own mothers if it weren't for "morality".
Which brings up yet another unsolvable question, where does love come
from? Where does life come from if everything started out as a
hydrogen bubble that went BANG! ? I've got a meteorite sitting here
on the table. Heaviest thing I own even counting that lead brick out
by the garage. You mean to tell me that life came from this
impenetrable object? Now that takes so really wacko faith!
I've raised children and now enjoy watching them raise their own. And
you say there is no such thing as a miracle? Life that grows in both
stature and wisdom rising out of a rock? And we look at ourselves
as the highest evolved species because of our ability to reason?
Every time I pick up this piece of space rock, the reasonability of
evolution just simply escapes me. Who cares if my chromosome count is
46 and that chimps is 48. A rock has zero and according to
evolutionary "wisdom" that is where everything grew out of. And those
ferns I planted this spring have 480 chromosomes. Boy, those gotta be
some smart plants!
