God's Great Grace
"For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God." Eph 2:8
God's grace is His power given to us to do what we ourselves cannot
do. His grace enables us to think, live and act the way He desires to
bring honor and glory unto Him. The very act of salvation is based
upon His grace as the Holy Spirit draws us to Him by enlivening our
dormant conscience that was invaded and darkened by sin.
Does this grace mean that we are automatons and robots controlled by
strings as a marionette? No, God also has given us the freedom of
choice. We can choose to ignore His grace or we can choose to accept
this wonderful gift. For example when we as men court a woman for
marriage we do not make her love us. We wait until she has chosen to
love us of her own free will. Otherwise it would be an owner to slave
relationship. God waits for us to come to this juncture of decision
as well:
"For God so loved the world [us], that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever [us] believeth in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life." John 3:16
"believeth" is a choice; we can believe or not believe. We can accept
the gift or reject it. But God's grace is there to help us come to
Him.
