Joseph Smith Jr had his First Vision in the spring of 1820. In 1830 he
published the Book of Mormon and founded the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. It was not until 1835 that Joseph Smith Jr even saw
the papyri and. The Church did not adopt polygamy until 1843 (and no new
polygamous relations have been condoned by the Church since 1890).

Given these dates, the above assertion that Mormonism was based upon
Joseph's claim to be able to translate the ancient patriarch's account is
ridiculous.

But the fact is that this thread was discussing baptisms for the dead.
When I stumped lseib, he quickly changed the subject by citing an article
by Frank Zindler on the origins of the Book of Abraham.
