Hmm. One has to wonder why God wasn't aware that this would be the more
or less direct result of the miracle he used to place Jesus into the
world, and maybe toss in a little side miracle to protect these
children. That might have been more useful than using up a miracle to
give Heod a disgusting illness, satisfying though that may have been.
If God's going to intervene, why stop at half-measures? Just protecting
the baby Jesus, while letting all those other kids get killed, smacks
of favoritism (or nepotism).
But at least we got a cool hymn out of it, so I suppose it all works
out.
