Get this -
That's the word from a Harris Poll of 2,303 adults nationwide,
Now read this part -
Who doesn't believe in God at all? Thirteen percent say there is no God.
Here's the surprising, perhaps shocking part: Of those who insist there is
no God, 6 percent are Catholics, 5 percent are Protestants, 11 percent are
Jewish and 8 percent are born-again Christians.
Amazing. there are cath0_licks who claim to be cath0_Lick but don't believe
in God.
No more or less amazing than the other numbers quoted. But of course
you knew that.
The point is that one can be all of those things listed "ethnically",
even if you don't go along with the God stuff. This has long been
recognized as true for Jews - that there is such a thing as being
"ethnically" Jewish, totally independent of the God stuff. Well, now we
see that the same is true for the other groups.
See movie: "She's The One" (Directed by Edward Burns). One of the best
exchanges in the movie:
Mickey: You don't even believe in God anymore!
Frank: That doesn't mean I'm not still a good Catholic!
Finally, FWIW, I'm still ethnically Catholic, but of course I've long
since outgrown the God stuff (along with Santa Clause and the Easter
Bunny).
