No For over 40 years Novus Ordo Priests have made changes that have upset the
people but as long as they were "liberal" changes it was okay. Just one example
is altar girls. for years individual Pastors allowed them and were never
disciplined. Many in the pews would walk out and leave their parishes over the
contentious issue. No discipline was ever done. Thats just one example. Even
communion in the hand while standing was not allowedfor years . It was still
going on at numerous parishes. Oh the Vatican caved and allowed them both and
they are now the norm.

Before each Mass on the morning of June 29th, Fr. Zigrang announced
that he would no longer be offering Mass according to the revised
missal of Pope Paul VI, instituted in 1969. He proceeded to offer the
Mass according to the Roman Missal of 1962 (also called
the "Latin", "Traditional" or "Tridentine" Mass). Parishioners who
were used to attending a Mass in English, with the priest facing the
congregation, witnessed a priest offer a Mass almost entirely in
Latin, while facing the altar. Guitar bands and sing-along hymns were
replaced by chants and reverential silence. Rather then standing up
to receive Holy Communion in their hands, congregants were instructed
to kneel and receive the Blessed Sacrament on their tongues. One of
the three masses was a sung mass, also called a Missa Contata.

It seems to me that his error was not changing things, but doing so apparently
without notifying the people. I've been involved more than once in changes
to the order of service, and I've found that if the people know what's coming
and understand the reasons for the change, they don't have any problems, but if
they walk in one Sunday and find everything's totally different, they're not
terribly happy - and I can't blame 'em.

And I doubt that in this respect Catholics are terribly different from
Protestants.

As to the guy's superiors, AFAIK he did nothing contrary to the magisterium,
and therefore they have no legitimate grounds for complaint. I'd love to be
the guy's representative if any proceedings against him occur - but then I
imagine this priest wouldn't have quite my glee in confounding the
higherups.<g>
