I am also wondering about Catholic teaching and practice and how
much
comes not from the Bible but from the Holy Spirit, and tradition.
How
much belief, if any, should come from a relationship with God?
(Truth
beyond what is taught.)
Sorry I should have said "reading the Bible cover to cover", not just
the famous bits.

Also is there Catholic esoteric writing recommended?
I'll give this book a go: Abandonment to Divine Providence by
Jean-Pierre De Caussade. Has anyone read this book?

Is that "Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence"?

BAM
It is a different book, and being out of copyright is on the internet.

Anyway is material like this any good, or should I stick to the Bible?

I was very impressed affected by Trustful Surrender. Brought me through some
very hard times.

I did read "Finding Sanctuary" by Abbot Christopher Jamison, which I
enjoyed, and was written this century. i.e. a style I am familiar with.
I would much prefer reading modern English, not full of Latin quotes,
and written for lay people. So who are today's popular Catholic
writers?

Always loved G. K. Chesterton (try Orthodoxy or Everlasting Man) and give E.
Michael Jones a try - he's the current editor of Culture Wars magazine.
