It wouldn't matter to me either, if it were true that in ancient times
on 25 Dec someone celebrated the birthday of Mithras. But I can't find
anyone who has the slightest evidence to offer that it is. The nearest
I have at the moment is a reference to the CIL I p.140, which I can't
check (yet). And I have my doubts about that.
