Many people say it works far better, presumably because of the comparative lack of interference and larger number of available channels.
On 2.4 Ghz I usually see about 6 other signals some of which are very strong, and my connection often slowed to a crawl in the middle of a file transfer. So I often ended up putting my laptop right next to my router just to try and finish transferring the file, but even then the connection would be slow. My Squeezebox Boom is within 10 feet of my router, but I still had to use a Cat5 cable, because it kept loosing the wireless connection.
On 5Ghz, my router is the only router my computer can see, and I get a solid 54Mb/s connection all the time. That is using mode A, unfortunately I couldn't find a mode N card that would fit my Laptop, but mode A works well enough.
