If all you define how good a system by is how much bandwidth is required
to get a certain audio quality then DAB is a damn sight better than FM.

If you use 192k, then you can fit 5 services on a multiplex using PL3.
The bandwidth of the multiplex is 1.7 Mhz, so the bandwidth per service
is 1700/5 = 340 Khz.
FM has a bandwidth of about 200 Khz and actually provides better sound
quality than 192k DAB.

I don't think that 340khz could be described as a dam sight better than
200 Khz.

If you have 2 FM stations in the same broadcast area with the centre frequency
only seperated by 200Khz you're going to get some nasty inteference. In
reality you need at least 300Khz between them, probably more to account for
most of the cheap shitty non selective radios out there. And then you're
forgetten that with DAB you can re-use the same frequency even if the 2
transmitter broadcast areas overlap. Can't do that with FM.

Obviously with national broadcasts DAB is a lot more efficient than FM,
because you can use using SFN. However only 2 out of 7 DAB channels are

I've no idea what SFN is.
