Well, enjoy it while you can.
And you have the nerve to accuse me of spreading FUD!!!!! In
reality,
Kristoff, issues with capacity on mobile broadband should improve
over
time, not get worse!
OK. my mistake. I saw I forgot the smiley only after I had sent the
message.
Hans indicated that he now listens to internet-radio over 3G, but
expects it become more problematic over time as 3G become more
popular
(and 3G networks become more crowded).
I think it'll get worse in some places and better in others. It all
depends on where the networks roll new hardware out to.
But, to be honest, I do however think that mobile-phones still
could
have a future for digital radio, just not in the form of just an
"internet"-radio.
One option I see would be to use podcasting-technology, so
non-lineair
content: download content at night ready for you to listen to when
you
are in your car or on the bus.
The Nokia N96 supports BBC iPlayer TV downloads. ...
Interesting. Thanks!
Is this something special for the N96, or just a plain java applet?
It's a widget, which can be hacked to work on other Nokia mobiles as
well as the N96:

With subscription-services, I mean a subscription-based podcastingYou could even make a subscription service for this.It already is a subscription service.
service.
People only seem to be prepared to pay for properly premium content,
though, so if they can get podcasts for free why would they pay a
subscription for them (apart from properly premium podcasts)?
The problems with music-podcasts is that the royalties-collecting
organisations want to tax these too, so in the end, pure music-only
podcasts might become difficult to provide on a FTA basis.
The BBC has apparently (belatedly) applied to the BBC Trust for
permission to provide DRM-protected radio shows for download. I think
we'll just have to put up with DRM for downloads.
That would make much more sence then just use a mobile-phone as a
internet-radio, and it would fit the model of 3G networking much
better.
Mobile broadband has montly download allowances, so I fail to see
why
you'd need to change anything compared to how people are charged at
the moment.
True.
Now, other options are WLAN, where the mobile phone uses the
wireless
LAN-connection at home to download the podcasts.
