Re: Steve Green: The Register DAB Sales Graph and Interpretation

This thread is to discuss the manner in which the graph you referenced in
the Register article:

was constructed, and to point out the ways in which inaccuracy and bias
could be introduced. In general I won't be responding to comments unless
they are directly related to this *specific* subject, and may snip any
comments that aren't when responding.

In addition, I will be held to no particular timescale.

First, I want to establish some facts:

1) Is the *raw* data which was used to generate the graph referenced in the
Register article available in the report you copied it from?

2) If it is, is the report available for free or paid download? If so, how,
and how much?

3) If it isn't, is the *source* of the data used to generate the graph
referenced in the report, and is *this* data available for download?

I wonder what the 12 month average hides?

Probably that they sell most of them the two weeks before Christmas.

That fact would make a monthly growth curve almost unreadable, and a
year-on-year from monthly data growth curve very misleading - hence
the average.

Sales per month would be quite interesting to see, but largely
academic. I don't know if you've noticed, but DABv1 is dying, and it's
only life support from the BBC that has kept it breathing this long.

Cheers,
David.
