Yes it sounds dreadful on the Web. You would think that there would be less reason to use it on the web, and yet they us it on the web even more. I don't listen to GCap stations on FM much these days, only occasionally to Capital FM, but I from what I can remember, the Dynamic compression is not as bas as on the Web stream, but is still often annoying. Capital FM sometimes even sounds distorted, as though they actually set the levels a bit too high.
The fact that on the net I can find
lots of alternatives to the likes of XFM certainly helps, whereas on
FM/DAB I probably might have just kept on listening, although not as
much as if they used better audio processing.
I would probably listen to Capital FM a lot more often, if I didn't have CDs, and Radio Jackie to listen to. I couldn't listen to the web stream though, as that sounds dreadful.
