GCap Media's outgoing chief executive Ralph Bernard has spoke up
about his disappointment in the lack of commitment from Ofcom about
the switch-off date for analogue radio. He has urged the Government
to set a date to enable broadcasters to "make a business plan that
makes sense".
He can't go passing the blame onto Ofcom when GWR/Digital One made their own
business plan that included launching a digital radio system that was 15
years out-of-date - THAT is what's wrong with DAB, that is why the rest of
the world refused to use DAB and DAB+ had to be designed thus completely
screwing up their worldwide plans for DAB, so their problems are *all* of
their own making.
Speaking to Marketing Week, Ralph says that GCap's national multiplex
Digital One has "a lot of issues"
No ***, have you heard the diabolical audio quality?
and the arrival of second multiplex
next year will "swamp" the market.
Was that a bubbling mud-related joke?
"Digital One is a big challenge. BT has pulled out and Core and Life
are being removed and we are seeking replacements but there is not a
great queue of people waiting to take over."
Poor loves. Even after £155,000,000-worth of TV advertising on BBC TV and
they still can't make DAB a goer and the only interesting thing with DAB at
the current time is when year-on-year DAB sales growth will turn negative.
DSWTFM prediction: Internet radio will be FM's true successor - DAB was so
2004.
