The following problem has defeated Pure's usually excellent tech support. The aerial, coax and/or plug is knackered. Either that or you have it
I
have a Pure Evoke 3. After a replacement radio, the only difference being
a
different design of the mains plug. The lines that follow describe the
conditions which result (or not) in loss of sound. I also have the Li-ion
battery pack and a roof DAB antenna.
1) Run on battery, no problems whether telescope indoor or outdoor aerial
ar
used. Display is lit and normal.
2) Run on transformer (12 v 2A) works on indoor aerial but silence if roof
antenna is used. If I try to fiddle with the outdoor antenna connection -
just occasionally I get audio.
3) I have a Plug/ transformer from another piece of equipment - this is
marked 12v 1A. If I use this, either aerial works. However: when measured,
this registers 17v on my multimeter. Also, it has a metal "earth" pin.
4) Also, when I touch the outside of the aerial f-mount plug to certain
parts of the radio - eg the snooze handle - I get silence but all displays
stay functioning!
The previous radio which I had for 15 months worked perfectly on either
aerial with either power source. However, it had a different plug which I
had to return with it.
Pure engineers are baffled. I have been give a replacement radio -
identical
problems.
I would be very grateful for help, particularly if anyone owns this radio.
I
am trying to contact the aerial installer to ask if there is an amplifier
on
the mast. I have re-terminated the f-plug.
Thanks in anticipation,
Peter

plugged through a defective distribution amp or a diplexer and in the wrong
side. Take the F plug off, check for any wires shorting across and then
just poke the inner core in to the aerial socket on the radio. If that
cures it then it's the coax or plug, or even aerial at fault. What you are
seeing is the radio picking up "noise" via the aerial socket. Switch the
TVs off and try it with just the inner core again.
It's not the radio or it wouldn't work on the supplied aerial.
God knows why PURE couldn't have gone through that with you. It has nothing
to do with surge adapters, mains plugs or power supplies - it is on the RF
side. Your aerial, coax and/or plug are knackered, simple as that. They
might look OK but if you got it from anywhere like B&Q it will be full of
water and corroded by now. Aerials and connectors need to be waterproofed
with self amalgamating tape and grease! Never go for an aerial without an F
plug and always tape up the connection with self amalgamating tape followed
by insulation tape.
