If you open a separate Google Groups account you can, however in order to open that you need a valid e-mail address. I do the same, using an One Tel address, that is used for nothing else.

I simply set my mail client to bung all incoming mail to that account, into a spam folder. I only download the headers too, to avoid any nasty viruses etc. Then every couple of days I look for genuine mails, and I bulk erase the rest.

FWIW I get about 10-15 spams per day in there.
